Do you offer maternity insurance

Question: Both myself and my wife have a medical cover through my job with Alico. However this does not cover pregnancy, do you have a policy which will cover just this aspect of medical insurance. Thanks Mark

It is important to note that all maternity benefits will be attached to a waiting period. This means that you must be on the plan for a specific length of time (typically a minimum of 10 months) before you are able to claim for any maternity related treatments. A maternity benefit will cover you for all medically necessary costs incurred during pregnancy and childbirth. This coverage includes hospital charges, specialist fees, the mother’s pre- and post-natal care, midwife fees and complications of childbirth.

A maternity benefit will also usually provide cover for the newborn child in the event that they have any health problems at birth. As with the regular maternity benefit, newborn child coverage will always be attached to a waiting period. The shortest waiting period for newborn cover that we can offer is 6 months from the start of the plan. Newborn coverage is typically offered in one of two ways. The first is a “free benefit” where the child will receive coverage up to a predetermined limit (for example, the first 30 days of life or up to $30,000), after that limit has been reached an application must be made to the insurance company for continuing coverage. The second option is for the child to be born onto your plan, and with this benefit the infant will receive guaranteed coverage no matter what the state of their health at the time of birth.
