Question: I live in Haiti and I'm actually pregnant. I would like to go to the US or to canada to give birth to my child. I lost one baby last year due to preeclempsia. Could you please give me a quote for an insurance that would cover delivery to the US or canada. Answer: We can provide international health insurance maternity plans to individuals all over the world. Comprehensive maternity plans will provide you with coverage for the costs associated with a normal delivery and a delivery with complications, as well as pre and postnatal treatment. Plans that we can provide will offer you a number of additional benefit options and provide cover for dental, out-patient treatment, specialist consultations, and emergency evacuation. Maternity plans that we offer will usually provide a newborn coverage benefit to your child. This protection is important in the event that your child is born with any health problems or if they require medical care immediately after the birth. A New Born coverage benefit is usually offered in one of two ways, the first is to have your child ‘born into the plan’, while the second entails a ‘free benefit’. If the child is ‘born into the plan’ then they are guaranteed of coverage no matter what the state of their health at the time of birth, however your premium will increase after they are born. If your child receives the ‘free benefit’ then they will receive coverage up to a predetermined financial or time sensitive limit, after which an application must be made to the insurance company for continuing coverage. It is important to note, however, that all maternity plans will have a waiting period of at least 10 months. This means that from the start of a plan you must wait 10 months before claiming for any maternity related treatment, and you will not be able to claim for any treatment that you may have received prior to the completion of the waiting period. New born child coverage will also typically have a waiting period. The shortest waiting period available for a newborn child benefit is typically 6 months from the start of the plan.
