Question: Hi, My mom will be coming from north africa to visit me in the USA and stay for acouple of weeks. Recently she has been having a heavy hand and legs feeling. She has been prescribed a medication that is usualy prescribed for patients with mild parkinson's. I would like to get some second opinion and test(scans) performed on her in the USA. I don't think that she has parkinson's and I would like to confirn this in a center/hospital that I trust. My mom has an inssurance coverage with mutuelle Maroc, which is a partner with SwissLife and AXA. I wonder if she can get an international coverage with your company that will covers specialist evaluation, MRI, and oether scans if necessary. Thank you Answer:We can provide international health insurance plans that will offer a number of benefits to a policyholder and afford you the protection that you need anywhere in the world. Plans that we offer will generally be guaranteed renewable for life and will only ever calculate their premiums based on the policyholder’s age and geographical area of coverage; never on an individual’s claims history. In regards to pre-existing conditions, these will normally be excluded from coverage by an insurance company, but in some situations we are able to give you options under which a condition may be covered. When enrolling on an international health insurance plan most pre-existing conditions will be excluded from coverage for the first 24 months after the plan has commenced. This is known as a ‘moratorium’. If during the 24 month waiting period, no treatment is sought, symptoms displayed, or medicine is prescribed for the condition, then the insurer may choose to reconsider the exclusion and offer coverage for the condition. There are two other options that insurers will commonly use in regards to a pre-existing condition; these are ‘Exclusion’ and ‘Loading’. If a policy is obtained with an exclusion for a particular condition, then it will still afford you comprehensive medical protection but will not cover any treatment for the condition that was deemed to exist prior to enrolling on the plan. It is important to note that this exclusion will also pertain to any conditions related to that which existed before the start of a plan. If a loading is offered then the insurer will cover the condition for an increased annual premium, however not all conditions can be covered by a loading, and the type of condition being covered will affect the premium increase. The final option for coverage of a pre-existing condition is with a group plan of more than 20 people. In this instance the insurer may decide to offer the group a ‘Medical History Disregarded’, or MHD, benefit. Under an MHD benefit, all pre-existing conditions in the group will be covered under the plan without a waiting period or premium loading. It is only possible however, to obtain an MHD benefit with large groups.
