Can a diabetic obtain coverage

Index of Questions

Question: My son is 23 years old and a full-time college student. He has type 1 diabetes and other than that is in excellent health. What programs and coverages do you have available for him and what would be the annual cost? Thanks, Jack Gilbert

Answer:

In terms of coverage options for people with diabetes we are limited in the plans that we can offer. Many insurance companies will exclude pre-existing conditions from coverage, and will commonly label diabetes as a per-existing condition. There are cases where we can obtain coverage for non insulin dependant (or type 2) diabetes, but this coverage will usually be subject to a number of policy conditions. There are options that we can look at for obtaining coverage for a type one diabetic, however, it is important to keep in mind that this condition may be excluded from coverage.

For students, we can offer a number of plans that will provide comprehensive protection. Student plans will generally be renewable as long as the policyholder is continuing their education. In order to provide a quote for a student plan we will need to know the individuals date of birth, nationality and country that they are studying in. These types of plans have the flexibility to meet the demands of a student’s lifestyle. Student plans will offer high levels of coverage and provide protection for things such as loss of personal belongings and money, replacement of documents, search and rescue expenses, and personal liability cover.

There are a number of options that we can provide for your son, however it is advisable to talk to one of our expert advisers and discuss what sort of coverage you will require. For more information about an international health insurance plan, or to receive a free quote, please contact us today.
