Can I receive coverage in Canada if I am already pregnant

Index of Questions

Question: I will start to live in Toronto/Canada after 12th of June. For the first 3 months I will need health insurance and since I am pregnant I will need maternity cover. Can you please give information about the cost of such any insurance I can have?

Answer:

We can offer plans that will provide coverage anywhere in the world. This means that no matter where you are geographically located you can be assured of comprehensive medical cover. Many of the plans that we offer can supply a maternity benefit, however, maternity benefits will usually have a waiting period before the policyholder can claim for maternity related expenses.

The shortest waiting period for a maternity benefit is usually 10 months from the start of the plan, this means that until the policy has been in force for 10 months you cannot make any maternity related claims. However, there are different waiting periods for new born child coverage.

New born coverage is important in case your child is born with health problems and needs medical care. There are usually two options for covering a newborn in regards to a maternity plan, the infant can either be born into the plan and receive guaranteed coverage, or can receive a free benefit which will last for a certain time period or financial limit, at which point the child will have to apply for coverage.
