International Health Requirements for China

If you are traveling from an infected area before coming to China , you should have vaccination records available for a Health Declaration form upon arrival. If staying in China for longer than a year, a medical exam is required. It is very important to get international health insurance coverage that will cover you in China , in case of any unforeseen medical emergencies.

Money, Banks and Credit Cards

China 's national currency is called a Yuan ( ¥) or 'Renminbi' (RMB). Ten 'Jiao' or 'Mao' make up one Yuan. Banks in major cities in China are open seven days a week, although all the foreign money exchange is usually only available Monday-Friday, from 9am-5pm . But at present, the Bank of China has exchange desks for foreign currency and travelers cheques at all hotels, airports and most shopping areas. Credit cards are useful as well, Visa, Master Card, American Express and some others are accepted at most hotels, state-run shops and fancy restaurants. International health insurance policyholders may have to pay with the credit card at some hospitals in China and then submit a claim for reimbursement from the insurance company.

Safety

Crime rate is really low in China . Most travelers find that there is little to be concerned about, even late at night. It is no surprised that China is considered one of the safest countries in the world in which to travel.

Tipping

Most places in China are not accustomed to tipping, but the attitudes are changing, especially in places that are heavily attended by the foreign visitors. Most tourists chose to bring inexpensive souvenirs from home and offer them as appreciation to guides, drivers and whoever has been helpful.

Electricity

220 volt is used throughout China; however 4 & 5-star hotels are now wired for use of 110-volt electrical appliances. Most hotels have hair-dryer in each room. Be sure to bring along an adapter that can change the shape of the plug prongs, as well as an electrical voltage converter.
