Chad Healthcare System
Chad underwent many years of internal strife and Civil war, which disrupted essential government services, including healthcare. The war had destroyed and damaged many regional hospitals and led to a decline in the number of healthcare personnel situated within the country. It was not until 1983, with the effort of the Government and the support of foreign assistance, Chad slowly started to build up the medical system again, although the current healthcare system still remains deficient. The healthcare facilities in Chad include medical centers, polyclinics and hospitals. The Ministry of Public Health is responsible for administering the healthcare system in Chad. They are in charge of deciding the type of medical facilities and services that are required for the population in Chad, and also responsible for sourcing all medicines, antibiotics and vaccines into the country.
Healthcare services in Chad are unstable and medical facilities are generally poor and limited, especially in the northern region. The medical services are concentrated mainly in the urban areas of the country. Accessing healthcare services in the rural areas is a problem, and in some districts no functional medical structure is properly set up. There is a lack of qualified medical personnel in the country. The doctor to patient ratio in Chad is 1: 25,000.
There is a shortage of medicines supply in Chad, and some medicines are unavailable. For tourists who are on prescription drugs, it is recommended that you bring along an adequate supply of drugs in a clearly labelled container that would be enough to last the whole of your stay in Chad.
Lack of transportation, civil war and long travel distances has held back the people living in rural areas from seeking medical help. Medical equipment and supplies are also scarce in the country. In order to have an ease of mind knowing that you will have guaranteed access to treatment and that medical costs will be covered in the event of an accident or illness while travelling to Chad, it is advisable to take out an insurance plan, which will cover you for medical transportation or evacuation.
Chad is classified as one of the poorest countries in the world. According to the World Factbook, CIA, 80% of the population in Chad lives below the poverty line. The total expenditure from the Government on healthcare in Chad is around 7% of the country’s GDP. However, the public healthcare system in Chad is not free at the point of delivery. Patients are required to pay for all medical services and materials rendered, e.g. antiseptic, needles, etc. The costs may not seem a lot to many people in other countries, considering that the majority of the population in Chad lives below the poverty line, it could be a burden to most of them.

She has been prescribed a medication that is usualy prescribed for patients with mild parkinson's. I would like to get some second opinion and test(scans) performed on her in the USA. I don't think that she has parkinson's and I would like to confirn this in a center/hospital that I trust. My mom has an inssurance coverage with mutuelle Maroc, which is a partner with SwissLife and AXA.
